In recent years, Van der Zalm Metaalindustrie B.V. has made a significant contribution to the realization of the Service Port in Terneuzen on behalf of Contractors Consortium Sassevaart (SSV). We were responsible for the design, delivery, and installation of floating jetties and bridges, divided into two phases.
Phase 1 consisted of the delivery and installation of the Service Bridge and the Service Jetty, which were completed to satisfaction in 2021.
Phase 2, scheduled for completion in 2024 and early 2025, included the delivery and installation of the remaining pontoons and access bridges.
An important part of phase 2 involved the construction of approximately 280 meters of robust mooring jetties. These jetties are designed to withstand the local waves and associated mooring loads, given their location directly on the seaside of the New Lock in Terneuzen. Heavy workboats moor here on a daily basis. In addition, a lighter access bridge/mooring jetty of approximately 112 meters has been constructed for mooring smaller work vessels.
Three impressive access bridges, each 46 meters long, were produced to provide access to the jetties – exceptional due to their length.
Our assignment covered the entire process: from engineering, production, and assembly to drawing up the lifting and assembly plan and supervising the installation. The assembly work was divided into three phases, with the preparatory lifting and assembly work being carried out partly in Brakel and Moerdijk. Transport by water to Terneuzen also took place.
