Pedestrian bridge Slot Loevestein

Bridge construction

Pedestrian bridge Slot Loevestein

Van der Zalm Metaalindustrie B.V. was commissioned by Slot Loevestein to realize a pedestrian bridge at an emergency exit, improving accessibility of the historic castle for people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users. The bridge has an approximate length of 20 metres and is equipped with a weather-resistant steel railing.

The project started with pile driving, for which various work pontoons were placed in the water. There was some concern as to whether the crane truck would be able to enter the centuries-old castle through the narrow stone entrance gate, but thanks to the skilled driving of the Boer B.V. driver, the crane truck was driven in without any problems.

One month later, we installed and assembled the bridge on to the previously driven piles. Slot Loevestein took care of the installation of the lift, lighting, door modifications and final finishing works. This means the castle can now welcome more visitors, allowing them to enjoy this remarkable national museum with so much history.

This was an extra special assignment for us because Loevestein Castle is located close to our company.
